Project Details

The Headquarters of the Allied Air Command got a new building with a total area of 13.000m2 including new offices for various member states, an auditorium (400m2), conference rooms and a tactical control center within the Ramstein Air Base.

The basement of one wing houses a tactical control center and the telecommunications room. The technical installation is set up in the basement. A separate building is supposed to serve as a parking garage for 600 vehicles. The 5-story building gets a flat roof. Three office wings and a wing with a single-loaded corridor system form a ridge-like complex of buildings centered around a calm and generous inner courtyard. Office areas need to be versatile and should allow for changes from an open-plan office to combi-offices, individual offices and office cubicles (and the other way around) while keeping requirements of ventilation and lighting in mind

Realizing the plans meant to meant to set up an integrative mechanical and building facing concept:

  • windows with a sill height of 850mm, an integrated curtain wall with glazing (in steps of 92,5cm), and casement windows within every third grid, heating surfaces are adapted to the overall grid construction
  • raised floors and cavity floors in every office in order to make room for technical installation
